    Running Goals Winter/Spring

    I’m signed up for a race! It’s a half marathon in Los Angeles in early April, and it’s a good feeling to complete the registration and know I’m doing something challenging in a few months. I haven’t raced anything longer than a 10k since before the baby, & I think the NYC marathon was the distance. I don’t know the last time I’ve done a half, so I’m excited. My friend encouraged me & also introduced me to the app RunKeeper, which I just started this week. It does cost $40 a year for premium features, but if your goal is to run 6 days a week–it is well worth…

    New Year, New Who?

    Do some people have such an amazing week the first week of the year that it carries them through the other 11+ months? Or, like me, do you struggle to show up at work and then struggle harder to do anything of any importance? Did you make Christmas cookies with your daughter this past weekend (after Christmas) and then eat them all yourself? Are you at an Air Bnb tonight because your landlord decided the day before to tell you they are putting in new insulation? So you just have a pair of socks and running pants to get you through the next few days? Maybe that’s just me, but…

    The End of a Decade

    WOW. Thank you end of 2019 for giving me a great motivator for a dramatic sounding blog post! End of a decade.  I usually do end of year posts, I rarely have looked back on a huge chunk of time. 10 years? Basically my 30s. I remember spending a lot of it feeling “stuck,” but when I start thinking of this list–it is really amazing how much went down. It just never happens fast enough, you know, or the way you plan it. But turns out life still does happen. Here is a list of 10 things from the last 10 years that rocked my little world (this list intentionally…

    An Athlete’s Gift Guide

    I started a whole blog post reviewing about a dozen sports bras, but it was exhausting & just linking everything and adding pictures was stressing me out. Also, do my mom and dad (my loyal readers) really need to know my thoughts on which sports bra gives the most lift? But I do like workout gear, so I’m keeping it simple with my favorite products/labels/brands lately. There will be no links or pictures because turns out I’m not a true influencer at heart. It is way too much work. But I will try to get the names right! Running Shoes: Pearl Izumi Women’s Tri Shoes= I have been running in…

    Happy Thanksgiving!

    Good morning! I’ve been up since 5am. It’s Kenzy’s new thing. It’s also why I can’t give up my cup of cold brew coffee in the morning. So let’s start the day with what I’m super thankful for this year: Modern Medicine= thank you! I guess when you’re old enough, this is on the list every year. But thank you for keeping my friends and family (and dog) around another year & as healthy as possible. It means the world to me and my health anxiety. (Kenzy was playing yesterday & kept having to call the doctor to say “mommy is sick” LOL, is my healthy anxiety already rubbing off…

    Race Recap: Xterra Topanga Trail Run 10K

    I wanted to sign up for a “turkey trot” this year, but I tend to be in smaller towns over Thanksgiving. I like the small-town run feel. I searched around & there were several on Thanksgiving day IN and around L.A., but they sounded like a crowded mess. Instead, I signed up for a trail run 10K this past Sunday in Topanga State Park. It lived up to its expectation of being more about scenery than the crowds. I’ve only done a few trail runs & this one was not kidding. Like most trails in the Santa Monica Mountains, it’s basically UP and then back DOWN. “Well that’s any mountain,…

    Thankfuls= My Little One

    This week has been one that has not inspired loads of gratitude from me. So I’m taking a moment here while my kid naps to be grateful for the littlest of gifts she gives me. I actually wrote that yesterday as I heard the little footsteps of Kenzy waking up for her nap, so I’m trying it again today! Little Kenzy Gifts: When she actually falls asleep, she makes an audible sigh. It’s my cue that I can go, which is always good news–but it’s also just so sweet. The things she gets wrong with language–like when she says “sorry” every time she sneezes or “OOPIES” instead of “OOPSIES!” The…

    Waiting. Is the hardest part.

    Waiting is so hard. So hard. I threw some things out in the universe (or the universe threw some things at me), and now I just have to wait to see if they happen. Jumping through the hoops in order to have these possible opportunities was a lot of work–but at least in that work, you feel productive. When you’re waiting around to hear back, you tell yourself “stop waiting around. You have stuff to do.” I get dragged down sometime in the frustrations of checking email all the time just looking for any kind of a sign. I should be focused on moving through the day accomplishing things, but…

    Trying to be FUN Again. Does watching a depressing documentary count?

    When I’m alone with a night of TV to myself, which doesn’t happen much because my kid likes to sleep the same hours as me, my first choice is whatever the most disturbing, depressing documentary is. This weekend it happened to be Fire in Paradise on Netflix. It blew my mind. I follow the news regularly, but the news does not get at what it felt like to be in the middle of that fire. I cannot imagine escaping your home to get away from the flames only to encounter nightmare traffic that isn’t budging. The police yelled at people to abandon their cars and lay low on a slab…

    To my Huxley, my Bubba, My Boy

    I figure what is a better subject on a Saturday entry than to tell you more about my dog Huxley. I feel like I have already done this before, but he is worth multiple posts. He is a 4 yr old wire-haired pointing griffon, and he is everything. Having him as a pet has made me want to live out in the country and have SO MANY dogs. I’m not even kidding. I think about it almost daily, and I try to envision what changes can be made in my life circumstances to allow me such a gift. Living in this crazy expensive city, it’s just impossible to afford the…
